I received the following email from Jamie at Junior Achievement:
My name is Jamie Lucas and I am with Junior Achievement of Utah. I wanted to reach out to you and see if you would be interested in volunteering for our organization and making a difference in the lives of the students in your area. These volunteer opportunities would be able to go towards your CRA credits. Right now we have some schools who are in need of volunteers so that they can have this program in the classrooms. We have a high profile business that we usually rely on who has been going through an audit and because of that, they are not able to volunteer in very many classes. We are reaching out to the community to see if other businesses would be willing to help these kids out and make a difference in their lives.
We are a non-profit organization and our goal is to help kids learn about being financially smart and helping them to believe in themselves and that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up if they put their minds to it. We do this by having volunteers in the community come into the classroom and teach the students about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.
We have two different ways to volunteer and make a difference in the community. The first way is what we call a “JA in a Day.” Volunteers would go into the classroom and teach the five lessons consecutively in one day. This is usually done in about 2 to 3 hours and starts when school begins in the morning. The other option is to teach the 5 lessons once a week for five weeks for 30 to 40 minutes each time and coordinate with the teacher a time that would work for both of you. We provide all of the lesson materials and manuals and an orientation to get you familiar with the materials for both options.
I have attached a flyer regarding our “JA in a Day” opportunities. The Doxey Elementary date is April 28th. The other days are for Washington Terrace Elementary. If you are interested in our standard option, we have opportunities for that at James Madison and New Bridge Elementary.
Thank you for taking the time to read my email and I look forward to hearing back from you.
