Technology, social media and the world wide web have created an environment where anyone can build a name for themselves. But how do you cut through the noise to create true value for the audience you want to connect with while staying true to yourself? 

Join this session to learn what personal branding is (and isn't), how to explore your brand and ways you can manage it to increase your credibility and influence. After all, everyone has a personal brand; if you're not managing it, someone else is.

Biography

Elisa Garn is currently the Executive Brand Strategist for GBS Benefits, a full-service broker based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Elisa's experience includes more than 15 years in HR, recruiting and employer brand strategy primarily with small to mid-sized businesses. A true Xennial (the micro generation between Gen X and Millennials), she is often an early adopter with a natural curiosity for all things – Especially people! 

Her passion for the HR profession is obvious: She is a member of the Forbes Human Resource Council, has served as the President for Salt Lake SHRM, co-founded DisruptHR SLC, currently serves as the Executive Director for Utah SHRM and acts as an advisor and member of several business-focused groups. Elisa holds the SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PRC and SHRM Talent Management Specialty Credential certifications. A true believer of the global impact HR can have on creating a better human experience, her career path now focuses on the advocacy and influence for the progression of the HR function within the business environment.

When she's not exploring one of Utah's beautiful trails or organizing an impromptu flash mob, she's busy sewing 80's throwback costumes for her 8-year-old son and pursuing her journey to find the world's best cinnamon roll.

finding balance: lessons learned along the way

BIOGRAPHY

Becky B. Potts is currently the Vice President, Regional Executive, for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.  She is the senior officer of the Salt Lake City Branch and represents the Federal Reserve Bank in the local region.

Prior to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, she was the Vice President of Customer Success and Professional Services for Sorenson Media and was responsible for the management of Broadcast Solutions teams including Client Success and Professional Services teams across the country.  

Prior to Sorenson Media, Ms. Potts was President, National Region, for Frontier Communications.  Ms. Potts was responsible for delivering annual revenues of $747 million and overseeing field operations, marketing, sales, engineering, finance and local engagement relations, as well as reinforcing the company’s customer-centric culture.  Ms. Potts also served as Frontier’s Chief Customer Officer. During her tenure as CCO, where she led over 2,000 employees and managed the full range of customer relations for the company’s 26 residential and business contact centers, credit and collections, and alternate distribution channels.  She leveraged her expertise in management and customer relations in support of Frontier’s transformation of its contact centers.

Prior to joining Frontier is 2010, Ms. Potts served in executive positions in several Fortune 500 corporations including AT&T and Xerox Corporation.  As a Vice President and General Manager of AT&T Wireless, she was responsible for $1 billion in annual sales and more than one million customers in Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska and Utah. She managed a team of 700 employees and all distribution channels, including retail, business-to-business and indirect distribution. She was also integral in managing the mergers between McCaw Communications and AT&T Wireless, and between AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless. In addition, she managed AT&T Wireless’ sponsorship of the 2002 Winter Olympics.  

Ms. Potts has served on numerous boards, including the American Express Travel Board, American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Clubs of Salt Lake City, United Way of Salt Lake, Deseret Foundation, Board of Governors for the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority, and the Board of Trustees of Westminster College.

Ms. Potts has achieved many awards in the Salt Lake community.  They include the Top 50 Most Powerful Women, Utah Business (1999), Pathfinder Award Recipient, Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (2000), Top 100 Most Powerful People in Utah, Utah Business (2001), Utah Woman of the Year, Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Athena recipient (2003), and United Way, Outstanding Volunteer of the Year (2008).

She received her B.A in Journalism and Speech Communications from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles

Future gazing: utah's demographic trajectory

Biography

Pamela Perlich, Ph.D. is the director of demographic research at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the University of Utah where she leads the newly formed DemographyUTAH team. In this role, she and her team are responsible for developing and producing population estimates and projections, neighborhood indicators, and demographic analyses focusing on Utah. In addition, the DemographyUTAH team is responsible for the Utah State Data Center, a program affiliated with the U.S. Census Bureau that is responsible for the dissemination and interpretation of demographic and socioeconomic data, including recently released and historical.

Formerly, she worked as a senior research economist with the Bureau of Economic and Business Research, which has recently merged into the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. Prior to joining BEBR, she worked in the Utah Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, concentrating on long run economic and demographic projections. Although trained as an economist, she applies a multidisciplinary approach to develop data, modeling, and analysis that identifies ongoing demographic, economic and cultural transformations. The focus of her work is to illuminate these trends and the associated implications for the future, especially as they impact Utah. Her work highlights the great diversity in our communities and how these change over time.

She is highly effective in communicating these ideas to a broad nontechnical audience, including everyday people as well as community leaders. She has received awards for teaching, publication, and public service. Her work in the community includes frequent speaking engagements for civic, education, governmental, corporate, and professional organizations. She often serves as a resource to the press, providing the Utah context for broader events. Pamela serves on numerous boards and commissions.

Dr. Perlich received her B.S. in both economics and business from the University of Tulsa and her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Utah. Prior to joining the University of Utah in 2000, Dr. Perlich worked for seven years in the Utah Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, concentrating on long run economic and demographic trends. Before this, she taught for seven years at Tulsa Community College.

Biography

Susan Hostetter joined TAB Bank in 2014 and is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources She has over 25 years of a broad background of experience in all areas of HR management. Specialties include developing strategic initiatives to create an environment to be recognized as a best place to work. Additional specialties also include HR advising, communication, recruiting, and retention. She possesses extensive experience in the industries of banking, commercial finance, insurance, hotel and resort, collections, and call center with HR servicing.

Ms. Hostetter is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree. She participates in the strategic functions of the bank and oversees and directs all operations and initiatives related to HR.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, being a bank to her young adult children, camping, golfing and sipping champagne.

Having spent over 3 decades in executive management positions, training, coaching, and facilitating thousands of events - Katie knows business, leadership, and networking – and she now utilizes all of that experience with the Illuminate organization.

Katie is a frequently requested speaker, has been featured in numerous magazines and is the recipient of multiple awards. Work, family, friendships, and experiences are all driven from a passion for the cultivation of meaningful connection and contribution.
