On July 18, 2024, the Treasury Department and IRS released final regulations concerning the required minimum distribution (RMD) requirements for both IRA owners and beneficiaries under the rule changes brought about by the SECURE Act of 2019. While the final regulations confirm many of the IRS positions taken in the proposed regulations, they also include a number of surprises.

Even more than before, the options available to beneficial owners of Inherited IRAs can vary dramatically depending on a variety of factors, including the type of IRA inherited, the type of beneficiary, and the timing of the original IRA owner’s death. And IRA beneficiaries often look to their bankers to help them understand the withdrawal options available to them based on their specific facts and circumstances.

Join us for this Advanced IRA Webinar, where we will discuss how to determine what options are available to various types of IRA beneficiaries under varying circumstances. In addition to exploring the options available to beneficiaries under various scenarios, we will drill down into specifics such as determining which life expectancy tables and methods must be used, as well as pertinent deadlines such as when certain elections must be made and when distributions must commence. Lastly, we will address new spousal beneficiary options available for spouse beneficiaries beginning distributions from an Inherited IRA in 2024 or later.
